+ How often should I feed them?
Food and water bowls are left inside the puppies enclosed area for them to tend as often as they want. However, you may decide to feed them at specific intervals, which is fine. Puppies should be fed at least twice a day until one year old.
+ Do they sleep in a cage/crate?
Normally, they do not. We have fenced-in areas with plenty of wondering room and they sleep on blankets. We find that some puppies are more comfortable sleeping in a cage at first, but then wander out on their own to sleep with the other puppies. You may decide to maintain them in a cage depending upon your specific circumstances.
+ Should I cut their nails?
Some people cut their own puppies nails. However, exercise caution. There is a vein running through the nail and if cut too short it will cause bleeding and discomfort to the puppy. Many opt to seek this service from the vet or groomer.
+ What does it mean to be licensed to sell puppies?
It means you must meet certain state requirements designed to ensure safe and comfortable living quarters for the puppies. We are randonly inspected by a state inspector against these requirements and our licensed can be revolked should we fail to follow them.
+ Are you a breeder?
No, we are not, We work with select reputable breeders whom we have personnally inspected and are comfortable with the way they breed and raise the puppies. Our breeders are USDA licensed and must conform to their regulations.
+ When do you spay and neuter?
This will be determined by your vet but in most cases a female can be spayed after she is over 4 or 5 mos old, a male is usually neutered after 6 mos, This gives a male time for his testicles to be fully decended.
+ What are the benefits to spay and neuter?
Again, this can be discussed with your vet. A female is less likely to develop cancer of the breasts if she is spayed. A male is less likely to mark his territory or to be a runner where they take off in search of female dogs.
+ Are they paper-trained?
We lay out newspaper in a specfic area of their den. By the time puppies leave our home, most can be considered paper-trained.
+ What are good breeds that do not shed?
Most puppies that are mixed with Poodle or Bichon are the least shedding breeds, other breeds that dont shed are ShihTzus, Yorkis and Westies,
+ What are good breeds that are hypo-allergenic?
Technically there is no such thing as a hypo-allergetic breed of dog. This is because the three things that trigger allergies in people sensitive to dogs are: saliva, dander and urine. All dogs have these things. That being said, certain breeds especially the non shedding ones cause less problems. Since the hair or fur is not falling off the dog and leaving dander all over the house, most people with allergies do o.k. with these breeds.
+ Do your dogs come from puppy mills?
We have personally chosen the breeders we work with, we use USDA licensed breeders and have a personl relationship with them. We go personally to their homes to get our puppies and meet the parents of the puppies and inspect the setting the puppies and adult dogs live in.
+ Will you fly my puppy to me?
Yes. All of the major airlines have their strict requirements to ensure safe transportation of animals. We handle all of the specifics (i.e., arranging the airline, scheduling a flight, delivery preperation, and delivery to the airport). Shipping is usually between $275 and $300 in addition to the price of the puppy.
+ Have they had all their shots and dewormings?
The puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations and dewormings when they leave our home to go to yours. You will need to schedule an appointment with your vet to ensure that the puppies continues to receive his vaccines on schedule.
+ What type of shampoo should I use?
There are many brands available that specialize in puppy shampoos but we have found that regular baby shampoo does well since it is gentle and does not sting their eyes.
+ What type of food do you feed them?
Since wheaning, most of our puppies are introduced to a dry puppy formula of food, some of the brands used are: Royal Canine, Fromms, Neuto Natural Choice etc. A high quality food is recommended. There are other many good brands which we discuss with our customers during their visits. We supply a few days worth of food at the time of sale so you can transition your puppy to the food you and your vet choose for your puppy.
